Pros and Cons of Carpet Tiles

Carpet tiles in the Philippines make carpeting easier than the traditional carpet rolls. Carpets are often seen in commercial spaces but now it is also enjoyed by many households to for a classier feel on their homes. Carpeting a house is made more manageable because of the invention of carpet tiles, which is also known as carpet squares or modular carpets.

However, like any other flooring, carpet tiles have a share of advantages and disadvantages. Anyone who plans to update the look of their floors should do their homework first by examining its pros and cons. Before you buy carpet tiles at a floor warehouse in the Philippines, here are the things you should expect in modular carpets:

Pros:
  • It is easy to install unlike carpet rolls. You can set it up yourself. Carpet tiles can be laid in easy manageable chunks. You don’t need to measure an entire room against a carpet roll to have a custom fit. Even wall-to-wall carpeting is possible for a DIY-er.
  • You can customize the look of your floor. Carpet squares have a wide range of colors, textures and styles. You’re free to experiment with different designs on a single room.
  • Ease of maintenance. Once you stain a carpet roll, you have to change the entire flooring of your room. On the other hand, with carpet tiles, you just have to remove a portion with the spill or stain and clean it or replace a new one.
  • It can be shaped according to the contour of the room. In traditional carpeting, you have to risk an entire carpet roll to shape it. If you missed an inch or two, there is no way to remedy it but to buy a new set. But with modular carpets, the casualty is at minimum.
  • It is suitable to any floor types such as vinyl, hardwood, marble or linoleum. You don’t have to remove the old floor. Just lay it over and let the adhesive layer at the bottom stick right into it.
Cons:
  • It doesn’t appear as smooth and fine looking as a carpet roll. If not installed properly, the seams of the squares might not appear as a single entity or appear to have uneven appearance. This is why sometimes it is installed without a glue to avoid such irregularities.
  • You may question its durability over time. However, keep in mind that all types of flooring have its wear and tear phase. The adhesive glue underneath a carpet tile weakens due to traffic and accumulated dust between the seams. Because of this, carpet tiles tend to curl making it a safety hazard.
  • Carpet squares don’t perform well in high moisture areas just like traditional carpet rolls. So it should not be installed in the basement, kitchen, bathrooms, and laundry rooms. It is an imperative as well to vacuum the spilled area immediately to prevent mold, mildew and foul odors.
  • Carpet tiles projects sophistication at every home or business establishment. You can enjoy its advantages and lessen its cons by proper and well-guided installation. Also, buy only from reputable floor stores in the Philippines that sell high quality carpet tiles—consider quality and don’t be blinded by bargain prices.
